Wednesday

On our second visit we met with the orphanage director first. She shared a little bit about the children. And mentioned that last night Ryan asked his caregiver to be take him to his mommy (that's me!) and his grandmom! So far, so good! We presented the director with our gifts for her and her staff and then headed over to see the kids.

Ryan came right to me this time. They encourage us to give the children candy but it is so hot the M&M mini's melt quickly in his hot hands. But the Hershey's Kissables held up to the heat. Just don't try to pry that bag out of his hand! :o) He has settled in and is quite content to be held. They brought me a bowl of rice and chicken and I got to feed him (something other than candy) for the first time. He never lost his grip on those Kissables however!

Things are going so well I am hopeful the transition tomorrow will be uneventful. The orphanage director and caregivers will bring the children to the POJ (Department of Justice) for the Giving & Receiving ceremony and after that the kids will come back to the hotel with us.

The drive to the orphanage from our hotel in Hanoi takes a little more than 1.5 hours each way. And driving over here.. well let's just say it's not for the faint of heart. There does not appear to be a right of way and yet the traffic manages to flow. Constant horn tooting seems to be the language of drivers, never any yelling or.. gesturing ;o) Fortunately the POJ offices are not quite as far. They have been shuttling us around in a 16 passenger van and we're all hoping the ride back to the hotel will be relatively simple.

You look so natural holding Ryan. I am glad things have been going well for you. You have waited a very long time for this and I am sure you are felling now that it was well worth the wait!
